Worked example

A $50 item, $8 postage paid by the buyer, 7% sales tax, an item that cost you $20 and postage that costs you $6, sold in the US by a private seller:

eBay charges its 13.6% on the whole $62.06 the buyer pays, sales tax included, while Mercari charges on the $58.00 of price and postage only. That is why the order changes with postage, tax and price.

Where should I sell?

Fees are only part of the answer. A marketplace brings buyers; a payment service like PayPal or Stripe only takes the money, so you must find the buyers yourself. Compare marketplaces with marketplaces, and payment services with each other: the tool keeps them in two lists for that reason.

Then think about who shops where. Sneakers sell on StockX and GOAT, where buyers expect checked goods. Vintage and streetwear sell on Depop, Vinted and Grailed. Live sellers use Whatnot. Handmade sells on Etsy. Almost anything sells on eBay and Amazon, and in the UK, eBay and Vinted take nothing from private sellers.

How do I keep more of each sale?

Price with the fees in mind: the “what to charge” mode finds the price that leaves you a set amount on each platform. Watch the steps: Poshmark’s fee jumps at $15 and Grailed’s at $120, so pricing just under can leave you more. And count postage: some platforms charge their percentage on it.

Seller fee questions

Which selling platform has the lowest fees?

It depends on the sale, so try yours above. For a $50 item with $8 postage in the US, Depop leaves the most ($29.50 profit after a $20 item and $6 postage) and Poshmark the least ($20.00). In the UK, eBay and Vinted take nothing from a private seller on a £30 sale.

Why do fees on the same sale differ so much?

Each platform charges its percentage on a different amount. eBay US includes postage and sales tax; Etsy’s transaction fee leaves out sales tax but its processing fee does not; Whatnot’s commission is on the item price only; Poshmark charges on the price alone. Some charge the buyer instead of the seller.

Do these fees include what the buyer pays?

No. Fees the buyer pays on top (eBay UK’s Buyer Protection fee, Mercari’s, Depop’s and Vinted’s buyer fees) are shown separately in each row, as what your buyer pays. They never come out of your money.

Why is Facebook Marketplace not in the comparison?

We only show fees we have read on the platform’s own page. Facebook’s fee page would not show its text to us, so Facebook Marketplace is not included yet.

How up to date are the fees?

Every fee was read on the platform’s own page on 7 October 2026, and each calculator page links to its sources. We check them every month and list each change, newest first, on the fee changes page.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. Everything is worked out in your browser. A share link keeps your numbers after the “#” in the address, which browsers do not send to any server.
